I’m always looking for creative and free ways to kickstart my writing, especially when I’m struggling with writing a scene in my novel, or even pondering a strong way to begin a new chapter.
I stare at my computer monitor waiting for my muse to show up and magically make the words flow from my keyboard.
Confession: If I have ever had a muse, she is shirking her duties because she’s AWOL most of the time!
If, as I do, you sometimes struggle with a way to kickstart creativity, here’s a fun – free – way to do it: Use paint chips, those 2-inch by 3-inch cards that are available at hardware stores and other retailers which sell paint. I also discovered that Sherwin-Williams.com will ship a maximum of 10 paint chips to you, free!
Paint chips come in every color imaginable, and have really cool names like African Violet, Jitterbug Jade, and Radish. Use the actual color in your writing or use the paint name to spark creativity. (I just ordered my 10 free paint chips, so I’ll share what I wrote when they arrive.)
Happy writing!
