As soon as you open a browser window, the headlines scream things at you like “Texas Girl Gets Trapped in Sewage Drain by Two Large Snakes Guarding the Exits” or “Mich. Father and 6-Year-Old Twins Killed in Crash: ‘They Were Just Such a Beautiful Family’ ” and “Police Investigate Homicide of 6 People Found Dead at Milwaukee Home”.
And then there is clickbait, a headline that is designed to make you click on a hyperlink that takes you to content that may be dubious, salacious, or more than a little sketchy. For instance, “You’ll Never Believe What Happened When. . .” or “Six Foods You Should Stop Eating Now.”
Then, there’s less-than-polite billboards showing off a woman’s cleavage that’s designed to try to sell you legal services. (I’ve never understood why a female attorney needs to show her cleavage!)
Oh, and let’s not forget the profanity-laden music on the radio and in television shows and movies. Gratuitous sex, violence, and profanity are ubiquitous in our society today.
Sigh.
It is so easy to get down because it seems like the only news in the world is bad.
Take heart. As Christians, we live in the world, but are taught not to be “of the world.”
Romans 12:2 (NASV)
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Start today to trade all the bad news in this world to the good – the blessed, God-breathed Word found in the Bible. While we can’t erase everything we’d rather not see, we can make a conscious effort to choose scripture instead. Be encouraged. And ignore that clickbait or change the channel. You’ll be glad you did.
