Recently, I came across an article about the invention of the #BAND-AID.
A century ago, an employee with #Johnson&Johnson, Earle Dickson, came up with the idea of an adhesive bandage after his newlywed wife, Josephine, cut herself in the kitchen.
He realized she needed an easy way to bandage her hand that didn’t require help. He placed squares of cotton gauze at intervals along an adhesive strip and covered them with crinoline, a stiff fabric. He then took his idea back to J&J and the rest, they say, is history.
Dickson’s simple idea made me think about two verses that show God’s word as the BAND-AID of the Christian soul when we face life’s bruises and abrasions:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
II Corinthians 1:3-4
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
I’m thankful Earle Dickson invented the BAND-AID, but I’m eternally grateful for God’s word which is a balm to our souls.
