Regardless, it’s probably safe to say that we’ve all become accustomed to interacting with others via the software program Zoom. Funny how just a few, short years ago, Zoom wasn’t on anyone’s radar. Now, it seems, it’s as much a part of our day-to-day lives as our computers and electronic devices.
You know how, before you begin a Zoom call, you check to make sure your sound system is working properly? Click a button to make sure you can hear a recorded bit of music. Check. Click another button to record a brief message and listen to the playback to make sure others will be able to hear you. Check. Then, you’re good to go. You’re ready to interact with others.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all tested our own spiritual sound systems in the same way?
Colossians 4:6
“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”
Proverbs 15:1
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
James 1:19
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.”
So, the next time I’m in a long line for groceries with chaos all around me, I plan to stop and check my spiritual sound system before I say something that shows my impatience to a clerk or another shopper. I hope it will become as automatic to me as it is to check the sound before my next Zoom call.
Be encouraged.
